WELCOME

Welcome to How Sonoma County Works.

The purpose of this site is to provide a quick overview of the political structure of Sonoma County for those, mainly young, people who are leading the way in protests for BIPOC lives, and against police brutality. This is a collaborative effort by progressive Latina and white women who've been protesting and agitating for decades, and would like to provide a bit of information to the younger generation now taking up the cause of a just society.

The goal is to look at various aspects of government and its structures that directly impact the county, and the main players both in front and behind the scenes. In terms of cities, we're focusing on Santa Rosa, since it is the most populous city in the county. Views are our own, which means there's bound to be some bias, so we encourage you to check out the organizations we mention to come to your own conclusions.

Again, this is meant to be an "intro" to local politics. These are the people you will meet in your search for justice. Some will help, while some will hinder as they smile at you and try and keep you from succeeding. For a more in-depth look at politics here, check out the book "Who Rules Santa Rosa and Why It Matters," by the late Jim Wilkinson. It was published some ten years ago, but gives a good run down on Santa Rosa and its politics.
